Definition of Cation vs Anion

What is the difference between a cation and an anion? I feel like we use these terms a lot but I actually do not know the difference.

A cation is an ion that has a positive charge while an anion is an ion that has a negative charge.

a cation is something that also loses electrons, whereas an anion gains an electron

Cations are positively charged ions which means they have more protons than electrons and Anions are negatively charged ions that have more electrons than protons
