### Molar Mass

What is molar mass? What is the difference between between molar mass and atomic mass? What is atomic mass?

### Re: Molar Mass

Atomic mass is simply the mass of a single atom of an element (like an atom of Na). This can be found under the element symbol on a periodic table. In this case the atomic mass is 11. The atomic mass is composed of the mass of protons and neutrons. The molar mass refers to mass of ions, atoms, or molecules in a chemical compound (like NaCl). To calculate this, we use the periodic table and add the atomic mass of both Na, which is 11 g/mol and Cl (17 g/mol). Adding these two numbers together we get 28 g/mol, which is the molar mass of NaCl. Hope this helped! :)

### Re: Molar Mass  [ENDORSED]

Atomic mass: The atomic mass of a single atom is simply its total mass and is typically expressed in atomic mass units or amu. By definition, an atom of carbon with six neutrons, carbon-12, has an atomic mass of 12 amu.

Molar mass: the mass of a given substance (chemical element or chemical compound is in g) divided by its amount of substance in (mol).

In other words, it is the ratio of mass of the molecule to the unified atomic mass unit.

It is expressed in g/mol

SI unit Molar Mass: kg /mol
