Net Number Of Moles

Postby tessadalke » Mon Oct 08, 2018 1:19 pm

This topic seems pretty simple but I was just wondering how to find the net number of moles produces after combustion.

Add up the stoichiometric coefficients for the products and reactants then subtract the sum of the coefficients of the reactants from the products. Although it may seem like this goes against the law of conservation, there are still an equal number of atoms on both sides of the equation.

If you add up the total number of moles on the product side, and subtract by the total number of moles on the reactant side, you will get the net moles. While the number of moles on the product and reactant side may differ, the total number of atoms remain the same.

You add up the total number of moles after a reaction and subtract the number of moles before the reaction.

The total moles produced minus the total moles of reactants yields the net moles produced during the reaction.

Taking the number of moles you get after a reaction and subtracting the number of moles from before the combustion should give you the net number of moles.
