Fall 2013 Quiz 1 Preparation Number 6

Postby Janet Ngo 4H » Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:48 pm

"What mass of pure silicon can be produced by the reaction of 63.7g of Mg and 36.7g of SiCl4(l)?

For this question, do I need to write out a balanced equation and then convert the grams to moles in order to find the mass of the pure silicon?

This is a limiting reactant problem so you need to have a balanced equation for the reaction of with . Afterwards you can determine the amount of Si formed from the masses of reactants.
