Accuracy v Precision
Can someone please explain the difference between accuracy and precision? Thanks!
Re: Accuracy v Precision
accuracy is how close the value is to the true value. precision is how close the measurements are to one another. when something is accurate, it is almost exact in its measurement. precision measures the closeness of each value is to each other. refer to the picture that shows the visual representation if that helps!

Re: Accuracy v Precision
Accuracy is defined as how close to the exact amount your measurement was, in other words, how close and correct you were. And Precision is defined as the consistency and closeness of your measurements. Its important to have both when conducting experiments.

Re: Accuracy v Precision
accuracy = how close you are
precision = how consistent you are with your technique
precision = how consistent you are with your technique

a measurement's accuracy is how close it is to the true value. precision is how close measurements are to one another (aka consistency), whether or not it is close to the true value

Re: Accuracy v Precision
Accuracy measures the validity of your measurement, or how close you were to the actual values to be obtained. Precision on the other hand measures the replicability of your results, or how many times you got the same result. If your method of experimenting stays the same throughout multiple trials, you will likely achieve similar results with each experiment, meaning your precision is high.

Re: Accuracy v Precision
Accuracy is how close the samples are to the correct value. Precision is how close the samples are to each other.
Re: Accuracy v Precision
Have we gone over any applications of accuracy and precision in problems, or are we only responsible for knowing the definitions of each for now?

Re: Accuracy v Precision
Accuracy is how close the obtained value is to the correct value. Precision is how close the obtained values are to each other.
Re: Accuracy v Precision
Accuracy is how close your answer is to the "correct answer," and precision is how consistent two or more of your answers are.

Re: Accuracy v Precision
A good way to see the differences between accuracy and precision is to refer back to the picture of accuracy v precision that he had on his lecture slides, it really helps to distinguish between the two visually.
Re: Accuracy v Precision
accuracy how close you are to the correct answer and precision is how consistent you are with your technique and the results of your tests.
