Question regarding definition of molecules

Postby 005343842 » Wed Oct 16, 2019 12:14 pm

I was confused with the differences of when to use the Avogadro's constant as I thought it was used to find atoms per mole, but in other cases it's used to find molecules per mole. Could someone please maybe explain the difference between or shed some light on what the constant really means?

The constant refers to the amount (6.022*10^23) in a mole of a unit. It could be either a molecule, or an atom as long as it is 1 unit.

From my understanding, Avogadro's Number can be used to find Atoms, Molecules and Formula units of a compound. :)

It can also be used to find photons per mole! This conversion is probably good to know, especially for the quantum mechanics unit :)

1 mole = 6.02 * 10^23 photons

A mole (6.02 x 10^23) can be a mole of anything, even money or people.
