Preference on Scientific Notation
Is there a preference between the 1.0 x10^6 scientific notation and the shorthand 1.0 E6 notation?

Hi! I'm guessing that is up to you. Whatever you are more comfortable with writing. They mean the same thing so it should not be an issue. But still, maybe you should go to office hours and ask. Maybe he does have a preference as to how we should write it out.

Personally I would write it out as 1.0 x 10^6 since that's how it's been written in all of the problems but it wouldn't hurt to ask a ta.

I personally would recommend using "1.0 x 10^6," since the shorthand notation with E seems to most commonly be associated with calculator provided/digital answers while the "1.0 x 10^6" notation seems to be universally preferred for answers generally written down or transcribed. As a result of this universality, it also makes your answer much clearer, while the E notation's relative lack of use may make your answer unclear to a grader or may not be accepted by an online service.
However, if you prefer one method over the other, and you're simply doing work that only you will see, then by all means use the method you prefer! Whatever works for people is what works for them, and so while conventions may get in the way of standard processes involving others, you are free to do as you please on an individual level.

I don't think that there's a preference in which form you use. Either should be good in my opinion as long as you make sure that you're being careful when you're using that notation when doing calculations!

I doubt there is a preference on how you write scientific notation so it is up to you. I would double check with the professor or a TA sine they might prefer to use 1.0 x 10^6 instead of the other format.

I think both are able to be understood, but I see the E notation less commonly. I'd suggest using the ^ notation, as that is what I see most often. However, you can look at the problems in the exam and see which notation they use and use that for your answer.

I think if you want to be safe you should use the regular notation but honestly i feel like it should be fine! you can also always just ask your TA just to double check of you're more comfortable using the other notation.

I feel like you should answer the question based on how the scientific notion values are written in the question (if there any scientific notation values at all). Otherwise, I feel like the 10^6 style is more common and I personally haven't been asked to write it as E6. Of course, you should ask your TA's for clarification.

As far as writing it out for yourself, whatever works best for you is fine! Our exams are multiple choice (at least the midterms are, not sure about the final) so you'll just be given the answers to choose from so it doesn't really matter.

writing it does not matter, but usually as I know, it is preferred to use 10^x instead to reduce any confusions and such, though I do know phone calculators use e

In writing scientific notation, I would use the * 10^x notation. I feel like the E6 is great for typing things into the calculator tho.

1.0*10^6 is used more often, yet both are technically correct. I would stick to the former because it is what is used on the midterms/finals.

Re: Preference on Scientific Notation
Both are correct, but I'd stick to the 1.0 x10^6 one as opposed to the shorthand one because 1.0 x10^6 is more commonly used, and 1.0 E6 is more associated with calculations on a calculator and such. However, I don't think it will matter for this class because our final, just like our midterms, is multiple choice, so you won't have to type your answers.
