E29
For E29, the question asks how many moles are present in copper(II) chloride tetrahydrate. Do I find the number of grams of CuCl2 and 4H2O and add them up or do I multiply the grams of CuCl2 and 4H2O in order to convert the molecule into moles?

Re: E29
For this one I think you divide the given number of grams (8.61g) by the molar mass of the whole compound to figure out how many moles of copper(II) chloride tetrahydrate there are

Re: E29
You would add the two together. So 8.61g/(molar mass of CuCl2 + molar mass of 4H2O) to find the moles.

Re: E29
In order to determine the amount of moles in a chemical reaction, when given the mass amounts, you add the two masses of the reactants. This will be equal to the mass of the product of the reaction according to the Law of Conservation of Mass. From there, you can multiply the mass of the product by the substance's molar mass. This will give you the total moles of copper (ii) chloride tetrahydrate.

I am terrible at explaining things, but I just wanted to mention that it may be helpful to write your units. Sometimes people don't write their units, but I feel like in problems like this it makes it a lot easier to process what happened. As well as makes it less confusing when trying to solve the equation. For instance, cross canceling the same units.

You would find the number of grams of CuCl2 and 4H2O and then add them up. I can see how the way that the compound is written may seem like you would multiply, but to simply find the molar mass of the entire compound, you would just add up both of the masses.
