Mol vs Molecule
Hello! I was wondering if someone could please put into context the difference between a mol and a molecule? I am working on problem E.27a and we had to convert from mol.g to molecule.g.

A mole is a separate unit that describes a certain number of molecules or atoms. The ratio is given by Avogadro's number, 6.022 * 10^23, which has units of molecules per mole and atoms per mole (these are interchangeable).

A mole is an amount of molecules. Specifically, 1 mole of an atom/molecule = avogadro's number, which is 6.02x10^23 molecules. On the periodic table, the atomic mass of atoms is the molar mass, meaning the mass per 1 mole of that element.

Mole (mol) : SI Unit where 1 mole = 6.022 x 10^23 particles (it could measure the number of molecules, ions, atoms, and more)
If it helps to put it this way, a dozen could refer to a dozen cookies, a dozen donuts, a dozen eggs, etc., but essentially, a dozen means you have 12 of something. Similarly, a mole of something means you have 6.022 x 10^23 things. If you have 1 mole of molecules, you have 6.022 x 10^23 molecules :)

A mol and molecule are completely different units of measurement. The ratio to convert between moles and molecules, known as Avogadro's number, is 6.02 x 10^23. This is how many atoms/molecules of an element are in a mole of that same element.

Hi! So a "mole" (abbreviated mol) of something is 6.02x10^23 of that something (you can theoretically have a mole of anything, so a mole, or mol, or apples would be 6.02x10^23 apples). 6.02x10^23 of a molecules would be considered a mole of that molecule. Moles help us quantize things in chemistry that are obviously super small by making it easier to visualize and compare, and the molar mass for each element on the periodic table tells us how many grams of an element are in a mole of it, so knowing how to convert in between moles and molecules is very important, and all you need to do is use the number 6.02x10^23 to convert. A mole is a measurement of the amount of molecules, atoms, or photons present. Avogadro's number, which is 6.022*10^23, is the number of molecules in one mole. A single molecule or atom is incredibly small, so the concept of the mole was created to visualize molecules more clearly.

I was confused about mole vs molecule at first too but a mole is essentially just a unit that describes a certain amount of molecules. This "certain amount of molecules" I speak of is also known as avogrado's number which is 6.022 x 10^23

To convert between the two, use Avogadro's number. # of mols x (6.0221x10^23molecules/1mol) = # of molecules

A mol refers to the base SI unit of 6.023x10^23 molecules, atoms, etc., while a molecule is the singular group of atoms that form a substance.

Moles can tell you how many molecules there are (or atoms or very small units). If you have to convert from moles to molecules, you will most likely have to use Avogadro’s number: 6.022 x 10^23. 1 Mole of something means that there are 6.022 x 10^23 of those things.
