Achieve # 6 , Weeks 2-4

Postby 506002081 » Sun Oct 29, 2023 7:30 pm

Hi,

I've done this problem over and over again, but arrive at the same answer. I multiple h (plancks constant) by 1.09 x 10^-15 , which was the frequency I was given. From this I get 7.22 x 10^-19 . I then use this value and subtract 3.90 x 10^-19 (the given maximum kinetic energy). I get 3.32 as a result, which should be the work function, but it does not work whatsoever. What am I doing wrong?

I am using the equations E= h*vphoto and work function= h * vphoton - KEelectron.

Hi!

It looks like you're using the right equations and numbers. I had a different given frequency but instead of 1.09 x 10^-15 I had 1.14 x 10^15. When I used 1.09 x 10^15 instead of 10^-15 I got a different answer than what you had calculated. You might want to try to see if removing the negative sign on the 10^15 gives you the correct answer. I also noticed that your answer did not include x 10^_. I had different numbers but my answer was significantly smaller than the one you calculated so you might be missing the x 10^_.

Hope this helps!
