### Wave Properties of Electrons

Can someone please explain the difference between diffraction and destructive interference?? And why they are important wave properties of electrons???

Diffraction is when wavelengths of light encounter a narrow opening, and they spread out. This is accompanied by interference if there are multiple narrow openings, causing the new curved wavelengths to hit each other. Destructive interference occurs when the waves are out of phase, or not perfectly in sync, and they decrease the amplitude of the light.

To add the other answer - Diffraction is when the waves go in multiple direction with multiple dimensions. This is due to the crystal splitting the light into its various wavelengths

Destructive is when the waves come from the same source and from 2 different planes. The waves have the same intensity.

In addition, the purpose of diffraction in the experiment is to prove/ show that electrons and thus all matter have wave-like properties since diffraction is produced by the interaction between destructive and constructive waves. I hope this helps you understand more about the topic!
