properties of electrons

What exactly is meant by a circular standing wave around a nucleus and how is this relevant to the spectra?

Well Danny,
A standing wave intereferes with itself, (constructively), so it doesn't show acceleration and no loss of energy
Non standing waves are deconstructive, showing acceleration and loss of energy
this should help:
https://www.lucamoroni.it/simulations/s ... mic-model/

It deals with the spectra as it is apart of the de brogile equation
wavelength = h/mv
