Electron After Excited State

Postby Qilan Li 4I » Sat Oct 12, 2019 1:37 am

After an electron reaches an excited state, does it fall down to its original energy level because it cannot maintain it? What are the results?

When an electron gets excited, it absorbs energy and jumps to a higher energy level. An excited electron can release energy in the form of a photon and "fall" to a lower state due to the fact that an excited electron is unstable and rearranges itself to return to its lower energy state.

When electrons get excited they jump up to a higher energy level and they then release this energy in the form of a photon and eventually fall back to their original state.

If an electron gets excited, that means that it needs to have absorbed energy in order to jump to another energy level. However, when it jumps to another level its position becomes less stable then it gives off energy in the form of a photon of light and goes back down.

When an excited election falls back to its original state, is the fall a gradual one (e.g. electron from n=3 to n=2 then to n=1) or does it happen in one step? If its a gradual one, is a photon released for each fall or is only one photon released for the entire process?

An electron is excited and rises to a higher energy level. However, electrons can release energy in the form of a photon. This will cause the electron to eventually fall back to its original state.

An electron jumps to a higher energy state when it absorbs energy. It falls back to its original state when it emits that energy.

When the electron reaches an excited state, it jumps to a higher energy level where they release photons to go back to the original state.
