Could someone please explain part (a) of this question? Does n increasing pertain to the energy of the atom or the energy of the electron as well?

Since the orbital is going from a lower to higher energy level, the energy of the electron will increase. Energy is a function of n, so n is increased from 1 to 2.

Energy can be measured by using n (energy level), therefore, when the electron moves from the 1st to the 2nd energy level, the energy increases because higher energy levels have a greater energy.
