Do we need to know anything about the second ionization energy of an element, or are we good with only the first ionization energy?

I believe that in most cases, just know that the second ionization energy will always be greater than the first due to the higher nuclear effective charge acting. Otherwise, just know the general trends and what it means. Hope this helps!

So far it seems that questions deal with first ionization energy. Perhaps it is good to keep in mind that the second IE will always be greater than the first. Also, the difference between 1st IE and second IE may be drastically different between elements: the difference is much more pronounced in Al than it is for Mg.

Does anyone have a video they think is a good reference for this topic?
