Mass of an Electron

Postby Chelsea Culi 3F » Sat Oct 16, 2021 12:29 am

Are we supposed to already know the mass of an electron or will it be given on the midterm?

The mass of an electron is actually on the "Constants and Equations" link on Professor Lavelle's website! I can include the link below so you can review and print it out too! I believe we will be able to use the sheet during the exam but I could be wrong!

Mass of an electron is 9.109 x 10^-31 kg. I am pretty sure on the midterm we are allowed to use a periodic table and a worksheet with equations / constants, and the mass of an electron is listed on that paper.

Hi, the mass of an electron is 9.11 x 10^-31 kg. Though it is on the constant sheet, it would be good to memorize since it’ll minimize the time you spend looking the sheet!

Has he ever explicitly stated that we will be able to use the constant sheet on the exam? I want to be sure we will be able to use it.

For exams, we are allowed to use the periodic table and the reference sheet titled "Constants and Equations" on Dr. Lavelle's website. We are not expected to memorize constants such as Planck's constant or the speed of light, but it might be useful to memorize some of the fundamental equations.

The mass is given, but I recommend memorizing it because it comes up a lot and it can save time during the midterm. Make sure to print yoour own copy of the constants sheet and periodic table!

Fortunately, we are able to use the equation sheet that is on the website for the midterm as long as we print it out beforehand. The mass of an electron is given on the sheet so there’s no need to memorize it, although it may be helpful to know in order save time.

You do not need to memorize the mass of an electron. This, and other things like the mass of a proton and the mass of a neutron, is a constant that is on the "Constants and Equations" sheet on Dr. Lavelle's website.

The mass of the electron is given on the constants and equations sheet. This can be found on Lavelle's website. There are many other useful formulas on that sheet so I highly recommend printing it out as it can be used during the midterm. I would recommend memorizing the value because it is used very often.
