Spectral Line and Observed energy level
In the Achieve homework #11 the problems gives us the observed line at 486 nm. If the observed line is in between two energy levels would the higher or lower level be the n1 for the calculations.

n2 would be the higher energy level that it would start at and n1 would be the lower energy level that it would end at.

n1 represents the final state (in this case probably the lower energy level) while n2 represents the initial state (higher energy level)

Being familiar with the Lyman and Balmer series really helped me with these types of problems since you get an idea of what's happening if you know the wavelength of the light.
