Type of Properties Given Electronegativity Difference

Postby Arzoo Virani 1B » Fri Nov 01, 2024 1:40 pm

In lecture, Dr. Lavelle discussed the electronegativity difference indicating the type of bond formed. For differences, between 1.5 and 2, he said we'd have to examine the characteristics of the compound to determine its type. Would these be given to us? Like whether it dissolved in water as a salt for an ionic compound?

I'm pretty sure that he will give us some sort of indication in a way whether it's by properties or characteristics. Otherwise, I don't think it's quite possible to tell the type of bond if the electronegativity difference is between 1.5 and 2.
