e- distortion & e- polarizability

Postby Kyle_Phong_2J » Tue Nov 07, 2023 6:09 pm

Hi,

I'm still confused about how e- distortion and e- polarizability are related. Can someone elaborate how they are related?

Hello,

I believe that electron distortion is when electrons of an anion and attracted to a cation. This causes the shape of the electron density to change. This causes polarizability, when atoms and ions with electron clouds undergo distortion.

Electron polarizability is a measure of how easily an electron cloud can be distorted; greater polarizability means more distortion.
