No, the nature of ionic bonds revolves around electronegativity and uneven distribution of electrons between the atoms.

Like the people above mentioned, ionic bonds are made by the transfer of electrons between two atoms, however, they still may have some covalent character, especially if their electronegativity difference isn't extremely high, so that is still something to keep in mind.
