polar vs nonpolar

is it possible to have nonpolar covalent bond that has a dipole or an uneven distribution of electrons?

Yes, it is possible to have a nonpolar covalent bond that exhibits a dipole moment or an uneven distribution of electrons. This occurs when the atoms involved in the bond have different electronegativities, but the overall molecule is symmetric. In such cases, the dipole moments of individual bonds may cancel each other out due to the molecule's symmetry, resulting in a nonpolar molecule. A classic example is carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄), where the four C-Cl bonds have polar covalent character due to the electronegativity difference, yet the molecule is nonpolar because the chlorine atoms are arranged symmetrically around the central carbon atom, canceling out the dipole moments.
