Covalent character.

Postby Nicholas Ryan 2K » Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:11 pm

I know that the difference in electronegativity between the atoms in a bond determines it's covalent character, but what happens if the difference is right in the middle between "fully ionic" and "fully covalent" ?

the difference in between covalent and ionic would most likely be polar covalent

If the electronegativity difference between two atoms is in the middle range, the bond is considered polar covalent, involving partial electron sharing and a resulting dipole moment. This results in a partial separation of charge within the bond, with one end being partially negative and the other partially positive.
