Metallic bonds, Lewis Structures

Postby Novelpreet_Boparai1N » Sun Oct 16, 2016 11:09 pm

Are electrons in metallic bonds free flowing among all of the atoms that are actually bonded together? Also is there a particular order in which we place electrons (dots) when making lewis structures?

I'm not sure about the first question, but to answer your second question, the order doesn't matter. Just as long as you write your structure accurately and have the correct amount of electrons in it, you should be fine.

For the second question, if you look at the course reader on page 1 of the chemical bonds section, when writing the Lewis symbols for a single element like one Helium, the two electrons are paired on one side of the diagram to represent 2 paired electrons in the 1s orbital. But for more complex Lewis structures it should not matter as much where the electrons are placed as long as each atom gets the correct number of electrons.
