How do I know what molecule/compound has more ionic character than another?

Hi Angela,

The higher an element's electronegativity is, the more likely it is to create a bond with great ionic character. To compare compounds' ionic character, you would usually find the electronegativity difference between the elements. You can also usually do this on the periodic table by knowing the trend of electronegativity (it increases as it moves right and decreases as it goes down the table) and by looking at the distance between atoms knowing this trend.
