H2S and HCl

Postby Aneri Chouhan » Mon Nov 28, 2016 12:18 am

Why is H2S more polar than HCl if Cl is more electronegative than S?

The reason has to do with the bent geometry of the H2S molecule as compared to the linear geometry of the HCl. Also, H2S has a higher boiling point than H2S which means that the bond strength is higher and therefore more polar. Hope this helps!
