Difference Between Ionic and Covalent Bonds
What are the main differences between ionic and covalent bonds?

An ionic bond usually occurs between a metal and a nonmetal, where the metal loses an electron to the nonmetal so that both atoms can be stable.
A covalent bond usually occurs between two nonmetals, where the two atoms share an electron so they can both be stable.

Ionic bonds are bonds in which one atom (the nonmetal) takes an electron from another atom (the metal) so that both have an octet whereas covalent bonds are where nonmetals share electrons to get to their octets.

I believe ionic bonds typically involve metals with nonmetals and covalent bonds deal with nonmetals bonding with other nonmetals. In ionic bonding metals lose electrons and nonmetals gain within the bond to form the octet while in covelant the atoms share the electrons.

In ionic bonding, electrons are transferred from atoms A to atoms B.
