Multi-Electron Atom

What is a multi-electron atom, and how do they tie into q1q2/r?

a multi electron atom is any atom besides hydrogen. That is the coulomb potential energy which is charge 1 times charge 2 over distance between charges. It measures the force of attraction between 2 points.

Why can't q1q2/r^2 be applied to a hydrogen atom?

This cannot be applied to a hydrogen atom because hydrogen is not a multi electron atom. In other words, it must have more than one electron.
