What is the correct electron configuration of Br? [Ar] 3d10 4s2 4p5 or [Ar] 4s2 3d10 4p5?

A more conventional way to write the electron configuration of Br is [Ar] 4s2 3d10 4p5 since the 4s subshell is filled first. However, either is correct.

According to the textbook, [Ar] 4s23d104p5 is the correct way to write the electron configuration of Br.

The 4s orbital is written before the 3d orbital to show that it is of lower energy, since the farther the orbital you go, the more energy it has.
