Non-polar and Polar Covalent Bonds

In chemistry, how do we distinguish between non-polar and polar covalent bonds?

I remember learning that a C-H bond is non-polar, even though Carbon and Hydrogen don't have the same electronegativities.

A bond will be polar covalent if the 2 atoms have different electronegativities. In the case of C and H, they have similar enough electronegativities (I think theres a .3 difference) to be non polar covalent. C and H are the 2 main elements you need to know have similar electronegativities.

If a covalently bonded molecule is symmetrical it is polar.

Nonpolar covalent bonds are a type of chemical bond where two atoms share a pair of electrons with each other. Polar covalent bonding is a type of chemical bond where a pair of electrons is unequally shared between two atoms.
