3.19 (6th edition)

Postby Lina Petrossian 1D » Sun Nov 04, 2018 1:22 pm

3.19 Give the ground-state electron configuration and number of unpaired electrons expected for each of the following ions: (a) Sb3+; (b) Sn4+; (d) Br-; (e) Ni2+.

For part e my answer is [Ar]3d8 with 2 unpaired electrons. Did others get different answers?

I believe that should be the right answer as the two electrons that would be removed due to the 2+ positive charge on Ni would be the two electrons in the 4s orbital.

If you check the solutions manual, [Ar]3d^8 is the correct answer.

Thank you for clarifying. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the solutions manual.

Your work is correct from my understanding, I also got two unpaired electrons for this problem.
