Yes, I agree that ionic bonds would be shorter. Generally, we care more about the bond lengths among covalent bonds because there is more variation among the lengths of covalent bonds. For instance, in covalent structures there are single, double, and triple bonds that can form, with single being the longest and triple being the shortest.
