bond length

Why is the PF bond in PF3 longer than the NF bond in NF3? This is from homework problem 2.25

P has one more valence shell than N. This results in a larger atomic radius, a larger covalent radius, and thus, a longer bond length.

Because of the shielding effect - since P is a period down from N it has more electrons and thus the pull of the nucleus is weaker, thereby increasing the covalent radius and thus the bond length.

P has more shells of electron and less attraction from the nucleus.
