Indeed, and covalent bonds are different than ionic bonds because electrons are shared between the non-metals.

Covalent bonds can only be formed by nonmetals, and metals are more likely to form ionic bonds. Remember that metals often times become cations because it is easier for them to give up electrons. Non metals have high ionization energy.

An ionic bond is typically between a metal and a nonmetal since metals form cations whereas nonmetals form anions.

Correct, covalent bonds occur between two non-metals. This differs from the metal-nonmetal ionic bonds.
