intermolecular vs intramolecular
What is the difference between intermolecular and intramolecular bonding?

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intermolecular bonding is interactions between molecules like dipole- dipole forces, hydrogen bonding, ion- dipole, and london dispersion forces. Intramolecular bonding is bonding within molecules between atoms like covalent and ionic bonding.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intermolecular forces exist between surrounding molecules while intramolecular forces are within molecules and hold atoms together.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
It is also important to know that intramolecular forces are stronger than intermolecular forces because they involve the actual sharing/transfer of electrons that bond atoms together.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
inter is between two molecules and intra is within the same molecule.
Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intermolecular bonding is between multiple molecules. Intramolecular bonding is within a single molecule.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
An easy way that I remember is "international," which is between several nations, while "intra" is within one thing.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intermolecular bonding is the bond formed between molecules, such as hydrogen bond and Van der Waal's forces. Intramolecular bonding refers to the bond formed within a molecule, such as covalent bond.
Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intramolecular forces are forces that hold the atoms together between a molecule. In contrast, intermolecular forces are the forces that exist within the molecules.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intramolecular bonds are bonds within a single molecule, in others words it is bond between atoms which forms that one molecule. Intermolecular bonds are attraction forces between two molecules, a classic example will be Hydrogen bond: a hydrogen atom attracting to an electronegative atom from another molecule.

I am assuming that later on it would be helpful for us to differentiate between the two different forces so that we can explain the chemical behavior of certain molecules and/or atoms.

I'm pretty sure there are only 3 intramolecular forces (ionic, covalent, and metallic bonding) and it's not too hard to remember so I would just make sure to know the difference between the two. Intramolecular forces are bonds because it allows for atoms to make up a molecule

Intermolecular bonds are between molecules (LDF, Dipole-Dipole, Hydrogen). Intramolecular bonds are within molecules (Covalent, Ionic, Metallic).

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
It's important to note the types of forces that occur with intramolecular forces and intermolecular forces, especially considering their strength. For example, individual intramolecular forces such as covalent bonds will be much stronger than individual intermolecular forces such as hydrogen bonds.

Re: intermolecular vs intramolecular
Intermolecular bonds are between (inter) molecules. This means that these bonds are interactions that hold many molecules together and can include hydrogen bonds, van der Waals, dipole-dipole, etc. Intramolecular bonds are within (intra) bonds. These are the bonds that actually hold the atoms in a molecule together and can include nonpolar covalent bonds, covalent bonds, ionic bonds, etc.
