2A.15

Postby Sophia B 3G » Wed Oct 27, 2021 1:19 pm

Why is 2A.15 part (D) +3? I thought it would be +1. Thanks!

It would be Ga3+ because its electron configuration is: [Ar]3d104s24p1. And thus to get the configuration of the noble gas, it would lose the electrons in 4s and 4p (3e-), leaving a charge of +3.

Gallium has 3 valence electrons, meaning that it would lose 3, giving it a charge of +3!

Oh okay. This makes sense now. Thank you.
