What is the difference between a localized bond and a delocalized bond?

Dr. Lavelle answered this question previously on Chemistry Community. Please see the link below for his answer.

Hope this helps

a delocalized bond is like a bond that it is in a resonance structure. It is basicaly like a bond htat is shared between different atoms in the same molecule. For example, if you look at benzene there are two ways for the Lewis structure to be drawn. The bond switches so much between these two positions that the bond basically becomes a hyrbid, and this would be a delocalized bond. A localized bond is bond between two atoms in the same molecule and is stays between those two atoms. For example the bond between C and H in CH4 is a localized bond.

The delocalized bond is basically a bond that moved betweeen two different pairs of atoms like in benzene. So if you see in the picture there is a circle inside of the hexagon and that is because the double bonds continuously switch positions making every bond in benzene a length between a single bond and a double bond. This is why it is delocalized.

Hello! the difference between a localized and delocalized bond is that the electrons remain close to the atom, and it travels between the two atoms. On the other hand, a delocaized bond is indicative of electrons that do not remain close to one atom, but instead are close to two atoms, visiting both.

What exactly is the significance of a delocalized bond? are there differences in strength between delocalized and localized ?

I think that delocalized means that there are renosonce structures

This relates to the resonance structures, if a bond is localized then it does not move but if it is delocalized the the electron can move depending on the resonance structure.

Could we say that the bond lengths are the same when it comes to the changing of bond within the carbons? Or would they be changing every so often because they are rotating?
