Bond length

Why does the bond type affect bond length?

Hi! the length of a bond is determined by the bond order which is also known as the number of the bonded electrons. The more bonded electrons there are, the shorter the bond length, or in other words the higher the bond length the shorter the bond length and the shorter a bond is the stronger it is. Hope this helps!

Hi! To simplify it: single bonds > double bonds > triple bonds

A single bond has 1 shared pair of electrons, double bonds have 2 shared pairs, and triple bonds have three shared pairs. The number of shared electrons determine the length of the bonds. The higher the bond order, the shorter the bond length = stronger pull between two atoms.
