Delocalized pi bonds

Postby 305920501 » Sun Dec 10, 2023 9:09 pm

How do delocalized pi bonds affect electron distribution? How do they influence/determine which resonance structure is the most stable?

Delocalized pi bonds lead to a more even distribution of electron density, and resonance stability is enhanced when electrons can be delocalized over a larger portion of a molecule or ion. The most stable resonance structures are those with lower magnitude formal charges and a greater degree of delocalization.
