Sigma and Pi bond hybridization

So sigma bonds can form with s and p orbitals between two atoms, but pi bonds can only form with p orbitals? I just want to make sure because on one of the practice midterms, there was a question that asked you to denote all of the sigma and pi bonds.

Yes. The s orbital cannot have pi bonds because there are only two sub-orbitals. The p orbital can because after two of the sub-orbitals bond, there are four available to make up to two pi bonds

Sigma bonds can form between two s-orbitals and between an s-orbital and a p-orbital.
Pi bonds form between p-orbitals, and p-orbitals and d-orbitals; but I don't really understand how the d-orbital hybridization work.
Can someone explain d-orbital hybridization?
