# of sigma and pi bonds
So there is always one sigma bond and then all other bonds created after that are going to be pi bonds??

Yes. This is true because a bond can only have one head-on overlap. For double and triple bonds, the additional bonds will be pi bonds and will form perpendicular to the sigma bond.

And in each double/triple bond, the first bond will be a sigma bond, and then the successive bond(s) will be pi bonds

So basically, the first bond formed is always a sigma bond, and the second or third bond, if there is one, is always a pi bond?

Yes. The first bond is always sigma, and any after are pi bonds.
