How many sigma and pi bonds are present in a molecule with 4 bonds??

I know that a single bond is a pi bond, a double bond is a sigma bond and a pi bond, and a triple bond is a sigma bond plus 2 pi bonds. Therefore, I would think that if a atom has four separate bonds all of these bonds would be 4 single bonds which would make four sigma bonds.

A single bond is a sigma bond, and the bonds that come after (the second and third ones in double and triple bonds) are pi bonds. Only the first bond will be a sigma bond while the other ones are pi bonds. Depending on the bonds and atoms in the molecule, there will be different amounts of sigma and pi bonds. If you are asking about a bond with four pairs of electrons being shared, then it will have 1 sigma and 3 pi bonds.

If you are talking about 4 bonds between two atoms in a molecule, a quadruple bond, is pretty rare and usually only happens with transition metals that have valence d orbitals that can combine to form delta bonds. Quadruple bond consists of one sigma bond, two pi bonds, and 1 delta bond.

If you are assuming that the molecule has a central atom (A) and unspecified atoms (X) around it, then there are various ways to view it:
[-] some molecules might have AX_2 layout, with a sigma and pi bond between each A and X, or with 1 sigma between one AX pair, and 1 sigma +2 pi bonds between the other AX pair
[-] another possibility is AX_3 with one sigma bond between each A and X, and one additional pi bond between one of the A-X pairings.
[-] You could also have AX_4 with one sigma bond between each A and X.
