Which is stronger/harder to break: sigma or pi bonds?

Sigma bonds are stronger and harder to break than pi bonds. Sigma bonds are a result of the head-on overlapping of orbitals while pi bonds are the result of the side-by-side overlap of orbitals. Thus, pi bonds are weaker because the electrons are further apart and sigma bonds have more overlapping and interaction.

further, sigma bonds allow for free rotation and pi bonds do not.
