sigma and pi bonds
How exactly are sigma and pi bonds different? And could someone explain the different configurations of the bonding?

Re: sigma and pi bonds
Sigma bond is formed by end-to-end overlap of atomic orbitals while pi bond is formed by side to side overlap of atomic orbitals. Also sigma bonds tend to be stronger than pi bonds.

Re: sigma and pi bonds
Sigma bonds also always form first; formation of a pi bond always comes after a sigma bond exists.

Re: sigma and pi bonds
the maximum number of sigma bonds is one and then every bond after is a pi bond

Re: sigma and pi bonds
Signs bonds are single bonds, they’re stronger, formed end to end, able to rotate. Pi bonds are the other bond(s) of the multiple bond, weaker, more easily breakable, formed side to side, not able to rotate.
