Carbon Pi bond hybridization

Can someone explain to me what the aufbau diagram of a sp2 carbon looks like and how this hybridization allows the carbon to form pi bonds?

The aufbau diagram for a sp2 hybridized carbon. Would be like sp2 _ _ _, then the other p orbital _. One trick to hybridization and pi bonds is that sigma bonds are formed by hybridized orbitals (sp, sp2, sp3) while pi bonds are formed with the unhybridized orbital. For sp2 hybridization , there is still 1 p orbital left since there are a total of 3 p orbitals. That orbital is used to form a pi bond. Hybridization usually differs depending on the question so if you give me an example it would be easier to explain.

The sp2 hybridized orbital would look like this:
p _
sp2 _ _ _

Three sigma bonds can be formed within the hybridized sp2 orbitals. The presence of the one excess p orbital allows for pi bonding to also occur. Conceptually, the easiest way to figure out whether sigma/pi bonding will occur is to look at the number of regions of electron density + the bond order at those regions.
For Example:
Carbon Dioxide (C02)
.. ..
O=C=O
.. ..
- There are 2 regions of electron density surrounding the central Carbon atom, leading to sp hybridization. Both Oxygen atoms have 3 regions of surrounding electron density, leading to sp2 hybridization for the both of them.
- Double bonds contain one sigma bond and one pi bond, leading there to be an overall quantity of 2 sigma bonds and 2 pi bonds in this molecule.
