How do you determine where each sigma and pi bond goes?

A sigma bond is always the first bond that two atoms will make and they are overlapping head to head. All of the following bonds that will be made between the same two atoms are pi bonds that overlap side to side.

Additionally, a sigma bond is a single bond meaning that two atoms share 2 electrons. While a pi bond is a double bond, however it's important you remember that 1 pi bond also has 1 sigma bond. Now if you look at a triple bond, that has 1 sigma bond and 2 pi bonds. Hope that helps!

Yup so a sigma bond is basically when two atoms share 2 electrons, which forms a single bond and a pi bond is a double bond (with on single bond)

Will someone explain # 3 b for 2F in the 7th edition?
I got part of the question right, my lewis structure showed that there are 2 pi bonds and 2 sigma bonds, but it says that there is also 1 pi bond and 2 sigma bonds.
