Sigma bonds are stronger than pi bonds because if you look at the 3D diagram of the orbitals, the heads of the two p orbitals in a sigma bond overlap, where as a pi bond is simply the attraction of two parallel p orbitals. This overlap is why sigma bonds are stronger.

This response is correct as the overlapping of two P orbitals causes the stronger force.
Sigma bonds are stronger because they occur for single bonds or the first bond between atoms, allowing the orbitals to overlap on their ends and giving enough flexibility for the bond to rotate when the molecule rotates. Pi bonds occur on the second or third bond, so their orbitals overlap side to side, preventing the molecule from rotating without the bond breaking.
