Different ways to write the lewis structure?

I was wondering if it was okay if the way we draw our Lewis structure was different from the solutions manual, in that it has the same number of valence electrons and each element is correctly bonded, but the structuring and order is different? This example is CH3OH.

I don't think it matters if it looks different from the answer in the solutions manual, as long as it has the same number of valence electrons and it's correctly bonded, then you’re fine. If anything it would be resonance.

I think they're both okay but the first one is more commonly seen throughout the book.

I believe that these two structures are essentially the same things because, as you said, they have equal numbers of bonds and electrons. Also, remember that resonance structures show the possible combinations of where electrons may be in the electron “cloud” so in actuality the electrons move around the atom with some combination those structures.

I am fairly positive that the way you write it is okay because either way, you have the equal number of bonds and electrons.

Both that you wrote seem correct. One of your Lewis structures is just more common than the other one.

I think they're both correct, but they're usually written as equally distributed.
