valence electrons in d block

Postby 805098281 » Fri Nov 02, 2018 6:05 pm

Can someone please explain how to get the valence electrons for the elements in the d-block and then how to draw their lewis structures?

Valence electrons refer to the outermost electron shell, which also has the highest quantum number (n). So for d-block elements, I think we just need to show the 2 electrons in the outermost s orbital. Don't worry about the outermost d orbital because it's at a lower energy level, with a smaller quantum number.
