Which of the following species are radicals? (a) NO2 ;(b) CH ; (c) OH; (d) CH O. and why?

Only (b) and (c) would be radicals, which means that they are species with an unpaired electron, because when you draw out the Lewis structures, you see that they have an odd number of electrons compared to (a) and (d), both of which have even number of electrons. Hope this helps!!

You can also just count the number of electrons and see if the number is odd or even. Odd = radical. There's not really a need to draw out the Lewis Structure if you don't want to.

The two or three examples given in class also included b and c
