Placement of Elements?

Postby Daniel Chang 3I » Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:20 pm

Does it matter if an element is placed on the top or bottom when there 3 connected bonds such as CH3-?

I don't think it matters.

We haven't learned the structures yet, but placement will matter soon.

we're going to learn shape soon and then the placement will matter, but based on what we've learned so far, we don't have to have a certain placement

Based on what we learned today, a central atom with 3 bonding pairs would be trigonal planar, with all elements havong angles of 120 degrees.

At this point in time, the placement of atoms in the Lewis Structures doesn't matter. It will in the future though.
